Health Canada is advising Canadians not to use Clean Testing HIV Home Test Kit, or any HIV home test kits, as these are unlicensed medical devices and may provide false test results.
The Clean Testing HIV Home Test Kit, available online at cleantesting.com, is promoted as a self-test kit to determine whether an individual has been infected with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). This kit is unlicensed and has not been evaluated by Health Canada for safety and effectiveness. Inaccurate test results may fail to indicate HIV in an infected individual, or indicate HIV when none is present.

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) will offer free mammograms through a televised phone bank on FOX 9 KMSP-TV in Minneapolis on Thursday, June 25, 2009. The phone bank will air during the 5 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts. The mammograms are offered through the Sage Screening Program, a state and federally funded program that provides free breast and cervical cancer screenings to uninsured and underinsured women age 40 and older. Newly enrolled women in the program will also receive $20 for being screened, which has been shown to increase screening rates.

Our pets have always been known to carry several bacterial species that can cause serious infections with their bites. Now it has been shown that one more should be added to the list -- meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
Cat and dog bites commonly contain a mix of anaerobes and aerobes. The list includes at least 30 pathogens which can be transmitted from pets to people, including species of Pasteurella, Streptococcus, Fusobacterium, and Capnocytophaga. Infections from these pathogens can result in severe infections in about 20% of all dog and cat bites.

Results of a new study show that drinking fat-free milk, rather than juice for breakfast, can help cut calories at lunchtime and contribute to overall weight loss. Researchers recently studied 34 overweight individuals, finding the group consumed 50 fewer calories at lunchtime. They found that drinking fat free milk allowed the group to feel fuller and more satisfied longer, leading to less calorie consumption at lunch. Drinking fat free milk in the morning may help with weight loss.
